Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and is the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017, and as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens, the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
